Several organizations have reported gaining benefits from using Route4Me’s multi-stop route planner to plan and optimize routes and ensure on-time delivery of the critical supplies to every door during the pandemic. And Harris County Precinct 2 is the new addition to the RouteMe’s long list of happy users.
The Texas Association of Counties has named Harris County Precinct 2 the recipient of the 2020 County Best Practices Award for 6 food security programs for their food accessibility and distribution initiatives during the Covid-19 crisis. And Commissioner Adrian Garcia and his team used Route4Me and Fleet Complete for making it possible.
The Initiative
At the onset of the Corona pandemic, Commissioner Garcia felt confident that food insecurity would become an issue, especially in his precinct, which has the lowest median income in all of Harris County.
So Precinct 2 staff organized and delivered thousands of meals and tens of thousands of pounds of food throughout Precinct 2 which was open to everyone in the county.
The team used various distribution methods, such as an improvised drive-thru distribution at a neighborhood park and by safely dropping off food boxes to elderly residents.
Together, Garcia’s numerous efforts formed a comprehensive approach to overcoming limits on food availability arising from the pandemic shutdown while reducing risks of exposure to COVID-19.

How did Route4Me’s Map Route Planner and Fleet Complete help?
Route4Me’s route planner app and Fleet Complete helped commissioner Garcia and his team expand their meal delivery programs which, in the pre-pandemic era, were deployed on different schedules. They used the software implementing them all at the same time.
Route4Me’s delivery driver app and Fleet Complete has helped them solve the logistical problem of a multiple-driver home delivery program with well-optimized routes and accurate turn-by-turn directions.
With this new technology, we have revolutionized how our meal program is managed and tracked. Now we can better determine timing, get live updates from our drivers, which in turn allow us to better serve our homebound meal clients,” said Commissioner Garcia.
Route4Me’s multiple stop route planner and Fleet Complete also helped their dispatchers track deliveries in real-time and stay in touch with drivers. All this helped the commissioner and his team streamline their meal delivery process and have stringent control over their deliveries.
“Essential fleets and services rely on remote visibility of their vehicles more than ever before in these uncertain times. We’re glad our fleet tracking software is able to provide the mission-critical insights they need to do their job safer, faster, and smoother,” said Tony Lourakis, CEO of Fleet Complete.
